The office of the protector within a trust is not required ad validitatem. However, a trust deed may provide for the office of the protector of the trust.
The protector, according to the trust deed, usually has the power to appoint new or additional trustees and to remove trustees. He may also have the power to require the trustee to obtain his consent before exercising a discretion.
The protector has the power to request the trustee to provide him with full and accurate information as to the state and amount of the trust property, including the accounts of the trust and the conduct of the trust administration.
